Sharks sign duo, extend Tseng鈥檚 stay

The Shanghai Sharks began their preparation for the new Chinese Basketball Association season by announcing two new signings, as well as a contract extension with Taiwan power forward Tseng Win-ting.

The new signings are former Zhejiang Golden Bulls captain Ju Peng and Taiwan point guard Lee Hsueh-lin. Both attended the Sharks鈥 first open summer training this week at the Shanghai Sports Institute.

The 31-year-old Lee played for the Beijing Ducks in the 2011-12 season, helping the team to its first ever CBA championship.

鈥淟ee鈥檚 rich experience is what Shanghai has been lacking,鈥 said Sharks manager Liu Peng. 鈥淗e has strong individual ability, who can also lead the team鈥檚 defense line and help control the match better.鈥

Being away from competition for a year, Lee was looking forward to a quick involvement with his new club. The Taiwanese will train with the team for the next three months before the new season which usually kicks off at the beginning of November. Lee also revealed that coach Liu had given him the task of helping raise the pace of the team鈥檚 play.

Lee鈥檚 fellow Taiwanese Tseng, who has played for the Sharks for four years, also extended his contract this week. Tseng averaged 8.8 points and 6.3 rebounds in the 2014-15 season.

The Sharks are planning a 10-day overseas training trip to Europe in early September, while the team鈥檚 foreign player quotas are yet to be filled.

The Shanghai team finished 12th out of 20 in last year鈥檚 CBA league, which was won by the Guangdong Southern Tigers.
