Sharks stay at CBA bottom after another flop show

THE Shanghai Sharks started their New Year with another embarrassing loss.

The Sharks lost 82-110 to the Liaoning Leopard 82-110 in an away CBA game yesterday despite a valiant effort by D.J. White, who notched a game-high 37 points and 12 rebounds.

White is the only American player on the Sharks roster after their big-name former NBA player Gilbert Arenas left for the United States to treat his groin.

The visitors were also without their captain Liu Wei.

The Sharks are now 4-12 since the start of the CBA season, currently 16th in the 17-team league. They could only manage six points in the first quarter while Liaoning raced off to 30 points.

The home side maintained their lead after notching 9 three-pointers from 25 in the whole game. The Sharks could only make one three-pointer from 11.

The Sharks have now lost two straight road games. They will welcome Stephon Marbury's defending champions the Beijing Ducks on Friday.

Elsewhere in the CBA, the Qingdao Eagles, without Tracy McGrady, lost 105-110 to Guangdong Southern Tigers. Guangdong's Zhu Fangyu made CBA history after becoming the first to make it to the elite 9,000-point club. Zhu had 16 points last night.

In a clash of Lions, Tianjin Gold Lions topped the Foshan Long Lions 111-103.
