Sharks unable to beat Eagles

IN a game between two bottom-placed CBA teams, the Shanghai Sharks could not get the better of the Qingdao Eagles, losing 91-103 away yesterday.

This despite the home team missing their star player Tracy McGrady who was suspended for one match. Qingdao's only foreign player, Chris Daniels, scored a game-high 31 points and 14 rebounds.

The Eagles, with their 2-17 record in the 17-team league before yesterday's game, ended a steak of four straight losses and notched their third win of the season. The Sharks' 5-15 record is just better than Qingdao.

Shanghai raced to a 10-point lead in the first half - 52-42 - but Qingdao fought back with strong three-pointers shooting percentage.

Among the only positive for the visitors was the news that their star and former NBA player Gilbert Arenas is back after receiving treatment on his groin in the United States. His agent said Arenas recovery has been "quite good." But it is unlikely that he will be rushed back into action immediately.

Elsewhere, Guangdong Southern Tigers won 113-110 over Jiangsu Dragons, maintaining their lead at the top with a 17-3 record.

Also, Bayi Rockets was swept away by Xinjiang Flying Tigers 81-105.
