SAN Jose goaltender Antti Niemi held Anaheim scoreless for only the second time this season, helping the Sharks to a 3-0 victory over the NHL-leading Ducks on Wednesday.

Among the other New Year’s Eve games, the New York Islanders maintained a share of the Metropolitan Division lead by winning at Winnipeg, Toronto won a shootout at Boston, and the New York Rangers had a comfortable win at Florida.

Niemi earned his third shutout of the season and 30th of his career with 28 saves, while Joe Pavelski scored twice for the Sharks.

Logan Couture added an empty-net goal with 2:05 remaining for San Jose, which lost captain Joe Thornton in the first period after a collision with Clayton Stoner.

The Islanders won 5-2 at Winnipeg, with Frans Nielsen contributing two goals and an assist. Ryan Strome had a goal and three assists, and Anders Lee and Josh Bailey also scored for New York (25-11-1), which is 6-1-1 in its past eight games.

Winnipeg captain Andrew Ladd scored both goals for the Jets.

Toronto’s Nazem Kadri and Mike Santorelli scored in the shootout to give the Maple Leafs a 4-3 win at Boston. Phil Kessel had a goal and his 200th assist with Toronto while Leo Komarov and James van Riemsdyk also scored for the Leafs.

Carl Soderberg had a goal and an assist and David Krejci and Torey Krug also scored for the Bruins.

The New York Rangers got back to winning ways with a 5-2 victory at Florida. Ryan McDonagh, Chris Kreider and Martin St. Louis had a goal and an assist each for the Rangers, who had won eight straight before dropping their previous game.
