Sixers stumble to new low
THE Philadelphia 76ers matched the second-longest losing streak in National Basketball Association history on Friday, dropping their 23rd consecutive contest with a 92-93 home loss to the New York Knicks.
The 76ers, whose 15-54 record is still two games ahead of NBA doormats, the Milwaukee Bucks, rallied against New York’s reserves in the final minutes after trailing by 15 points with four minutes to play but came up just short once more.
The Sixers are three games shy of matching the NBA-record losing streak of 26 games established by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2010-11 season.
Philadelphia will open a three-game road trip today at Chicago, also visiting NBA overall season leader San Antonio on Monday and Houston in Texas on Thursday.
If they cannot pull off a road upset, the 76ers will return home on March 29 to face Detroit trying to avoid the NBA’s all-time futility mark.
