Spurs' Parker to miss 2-4 weeks with injury
THE NBA-leading San Antonio Spurs have run into their first bit of adversity this season after announcing yesterday that point guard Tony Parker will miss two-four weeks with a strained left calf.
The 28-year-old Frenchman, in his 10th NBA season, was injured in the second quarter of San Antonio's victory over Memphis on Sunday and would not accompany the team on their current road trip, the Spurs website said (nba.com/spurs).
San Antonio, off to a franchise-best start of 49-10 and leading the Western Conference by a commanding six games, will start third-year guard George Hill in Parker's place.
But with an upcoming schedule that features games against the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers over the next week, the Spurs will be challenged to sustain their large lead without Parker, who is averaging more than 17 points and six assists.
