T-Mac rules out a return to the CBA
TRACY McGrady said he had no plans of returning to the Chinese Basketball Association league but did not rule out the idea of owning a basketball team like his friend Yao Ming.
“To own a basketball team, maybe I’ll do something to work it out. To be an owner of a team from NBA or CBA would be pretty cool,” McGrady said, who is a part-owner of a Minor League Baseball team.
The American, popularly known as T-Mac, was in Shanghai to promote the 2014 Hupu All-Star Game. The NBA great will lead a team to China in October and play against local teams in 14 cities.
While Guangzhou, Guizhou, Wuhan, Harbin, Liuzhou and Hohhot have been confirmed, the other cities are yet to be decided.
McGrady played for Qingdao Eagles in the 2012-13 CBA season, scoring 25 points, 7.2 rebounds per game. But the team finished last that season with just 8 wins and 24 losses.
Having quit the game, McGrady has been passing on his basketball experience to children while also being involved in promotional activities. He said he doesn’t follow CBA and had no intention of coming back to the league, but he admitted watching Sunday’s CBA final between Beijing Ducks and Xinjiang Flying Tigers.
