Thunder down Hawks to stretch win streak to 12
KEVIN Durant scored 41 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and the Oklahoma City Thunder stretched its NBA win streak to 12 games by defeating the Atlanta Hawks 100-92 on Wednesday.
Durant hit 14-of-23 shots from the field and 9-of-10 from the free throw line while London Olympic gold medal teammate Russell Westbrook added 27 points and 11 assists for the Thunder, who improved to an NBA-best 21-4 overall. Serge Ibaka, whose Spanish side lost to Durant and the Americans in the final for the second Olympics in a row, contributed 14 rebounds for Oklahoma City.
Jeff Teague led Atlanta with 19 points and 12 rebounds while Josh Smith added 17 points and nine assists and Zaza Pachulia had 10 rebounds for the Hawks, who fell to 15-8.
Thunder led 55-41 at half-time but the Hawks pulled within 73-66 entering the fourth quarter only to falter in the final minutes.
The Los Angeles Clippers are just behind the Thunder in their own winning streak, notching an 11th straight victory with a 93-77 victory over the New Orleans Hornets.
The Houston Rockets deepened the gloom for Philadelphia, winning 125-103 to inflict the 76ers fifth straight loss.
Houston's James Harden had 33 points and seven assists, topping 20 points for the seventh straight game. He made 17 of 18 free throws, including six in the fourth quarter, while Toney Douglas hit five 3-pointers and scored all 17 of his points in the fourth for the Rockets. Nick Young scored 21 points for Philadelphia, which suffered its equal-heaviest loss of the season.
However Golden State's surprising form surge ended in an unlikely locale, putting in a lax defensive performance and suffering a 127-131 defeat at the hands of the lowly Sacramento Kings.
The New York Knicks won their first home game against their relocated city rivals, beating the Brooklyn Nets 100-86.
