Thunder top depleted Spurs for 7th straight victory

KEVIN Durant scored 31 points and Russell Westbrook added 29 as the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the short-handed San Antonio Spurs 111-92 on Saturday.

Oklahoma City won its seventh straight but the game wasn’t the late-season showdown that was anticipated after the Spurs rested Kawhi Leonard, LaMarcus Aldridge, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker.

In their absence, David West and Jonathon Simmons each had 17 points to lead the Spurs.

“Another opportunity for us to keep growing and building our habits,” Durant said. “It wasn’t on us that they didn’t play their starters. We just had to continue to play our game and do what we do.”

Assured of a spot in the playoffs, Spurs coach Gregg Popovich said his team played hard, but didn’t have the talent available to keep up.

“We hung in there really well and did a good job. You learn from everything,” Popovich said. “Win or lose, it doesn’t matter.”

Both teams are likely locked into their playoff positions in the Western Conference.

Oklahoma City will be the No. 3 seed and San Antonio figures to be No. 2 behind the champions Golden State Warriors.

Elsewhere in the NBA on Saturday, it was: Nets 120, Pacers 110; Raptors 115, Pelicans 91; Magic 111, Bulls 89; Hawks 112, Pistons 95; Cavaliers 107, Knicks 93; Jazz 93, Timberwolves 84; Hornets 115, Bucks 91; Celtics 102, Suns 99; and Trail Blazers 108, 76ers 105.
