US women triumph

THE United States won the women's basketball world championship in Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic, on Sunday, with Angel McCoughtry scoring 18 points in an 89-69 win over the Czech Republic. The Americans have now won the world championship eight times. This was the first time that the Czechs had advanced to the medal round since dissolving from Slovakia in 1993.
