Unbeaten Sixers shock Bulls

Rookie Michael Carter-Williams produced game highs of 26 points and 10 assists as the Philadelphia 76ers continued their stunning start to the National Basketball Association season by beating the Chicago Bulls 107-104 on Saturday.

Center Spencer Hawes had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the 76ers, including the critical 16-foot jumper off a pass from Carter-Williams that gave Philadelphia the final margin of victory with 5.9 seconds to play.

Luol Deng, who scored 20 points for the Bulls in a losing cause, missed a final 3-pointer and the 76ers hung on for the victory, improving to 3-0 to match Indiana and Houston for the league’s best record.

Carlos Boozer led Chicago with 22 points and 10 rebounds while Derrick Rose, still dealing with neck soreness, added 13 points and Joakim Noah contributed 10 points and nine rebounds for the Bulls, who fell to 1-2.

Evan Turner had 20 points for Philadelphia, which has won the first three games of the season for the first time since 2006. The club had lost to the Bulls in their past five regular-season meetings.

The 76ers upset two-time defending NBA champion Miami last Wednesday and rallied from 12 points down in the second half to win at Washington on Friday.

In Indianapolis, Paul George scored 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Lance Stephenson netted a game-high 22 points to power the Pacers over Cleveland 89-74.

It’s the second 3-0 start in three seasons for Indiana, which has won seven in a row against Cleveland and taken 13 of the past 14 meetings with the Cavaliers.

Stephenson scored 22 points, including 10 in a 14-4 run midway through the fourth quarter that gave the Pacers a 79-61 lead with 7:46 to play.

Dion Waiters led Cleveland (1-2) with 17 points while Kyrie Irving scored 15 and Brazilian big man Anderson Varejao added 14.

The Pacers defeated Orlando last Tuesday on the opening night of the NBA season and then rallied in the second half for a 95-90 triumph at New Orleans on Wednesday.

The Houston Rockets rallied from a 19-point deficit to also remain undefeated and keep Utah winless with a 104-93 victory over the Jazz.

Elsewhere in the NBA, it was: Hornets 105, Bobcats 84; Mavericks 111, Grizzlies 99; Raptors 97, Bucks 90; Trail Blazers 115, Spurs 105; and Warriors 98, Kings 87.
