Wizards edge 76ers 108-107 after owner's death

ANTAWN Jamison had 32 points and 14 rebounds to lead Washington past the Philadelphia 76ers 108-107 yesterday, hours after the death of Wizards owner Abe Pollin.

Nick Young added 20 points for the Wizards, despite playing without Caron Butler, who sat out with a sore right ankle.

Louis Williams' layup pulled Philadelphia to 108-107 with 40 seconds remaining. After Gilbert Arenas committed a turnover with 28 seconds left, Williams missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer as the final buzzer sounded.

Lakers 100, Knicks 90

At Los Angeles, Kobe Bryant scored 34 points, and Pau Gasol added 11 points and 16 rebounds as Los Angeles exploited a major size advantage in beating New York for its fourth straight victory.

Ron Artest scored 17 points for the Lakers, who took control of their eighth win in 10 meetings by scoring 17 consecutive points in the third quarter while holding the Knicks scoreless for nearly 71/2 minutes.

Andrew Bynum added 17 points and eight rebounds on an injured right ankle, although he barely needed to jump while helping Los Angeles to a 60-36 rebounding advantage over New York's undersized front line.

Nate Robinson and Wilson Chandler scored 15 points apiece for the Knicks.

Raptors 123, Pacers, 112

At Toronto, Chris Bosh had 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Jose Calderon scored a season-high 21 points as Toronto handed Indiana its fourth straight loss.

Jarrett Jack scored 18 against his former team, and Andrea Bargnani and Hedo Turkoglu each had 14 points for the Raptors, who won for just the second time in six games.

Indiana's Danny Granger recovered from a poor first half to finish with a season-high 36 points, including seven 3-pointers, and nine rebounds. Ex-Raptor T.J. Ford scored 16.

Nuggets 101, Nets 87

At Denver, Carmelo Anthony scored 27 points and Nene added 17 as Denver dealt New Jersey its 14th straight loss to start the season.

Arron Afflalo had 15 points, helping the Nuggets win their 16th straight regular-season home game, including all six this season.

At no wins from 14 games, the Nets are creeping closer to the NBA record of 17 consecutive losses to start a season, which is held by Miami and the Los Angeles Clippers.

With another torrid shooting night, Anthony, the league's leading scorer, remained the only player to score at least 20 points in every game this season.

Devin Harris, who's been hampered by a groin injury, and Rafer Alston both finished with 19 points to lead New Jersey.

Warriors 111, Mavericks 103

At Dallas, Monta Ellis scored a season-high 37 points and Anthony Morrow added a season-best 27 as a short-handed Golden State ended Dallas' five-game winning streak.

Dallas was led by Dirk Nowitzki's 28 points and 10 rebounds and Jason Terry's 21 points, but the Mavericks had no defensive answers for Ellis and Morrow.

Rookie guard Stephen Curry had 18 points and Vladimir Radmanovic added 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Warriors, who used only six players.

Thunder 104, Jazz 94

At Salt Lake City, Kevin Durant scored 28 points as Oklahoma City held off a late surge by Utah.

Durant also had eight assists and Jeff Green had 19 points, six rebounds and five assists as the Thunder ended a four-game losing streak in Utah.

The Thunder built a 19-point lead early in the fourth quarter and didn't allow the Jazz to get any closer than eight down the stretch.

Carlos Boozer had 26 points and seven rebounds and Deron Williams had 10 points, nine assists and seven rebounds for the Jazz, who committed 24 turnovers.
