Yao, stars make Rockets pitch to lure Howard

HOUSTON Rockets showed their intent to attract Dwight Howard by sending an elite group to Los Angeles to talk with the free agent, with former Rockets All Star center Yao Ming also making a pitch.

Yao told Houston KRIV-TV that he has been in touch with the Lakers star via Skype. Yao told Howard that the Rockets "have a young team, a talented team that has the ability to reach championship level with you", and the Chinese ex-center indicated he would return to Houston on July 11, hoping to meet Howard again.

The Rockets' "persuading group" included Hall of Famers Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler, owner Les Alexander, general manager Daryl Morey, head coach Kevin McHale, and player James Harden.

Former Rockets member Dikembe Mutombo also sent Howard a message.
