Barnes has no regrets after losing bout to Zou

IRELAND'S Paddy Barnes said he was proud of yesterday's 15-all semifinal count-back defeat to reigning Olympic light flyweight champion Zou Shiming of China - having lost 0-15 to him at Beijing in 2008.

Having been outclassed by Zou in the Olympic semifinals four years ago, Barnes got his wish to score at least a point against China's world champion, even taking the third round 7-4, but the Irishman said he would not appeal.

"I'm proud of it, because he beat me 15-0 in Beijing, so to bring it back to 15-all is not bad," said 25-year-old Barnes, who leaves London with a bronze, just as he did Beijing.

"The judges were fair, I won't be appealing the decision and I wish him all the best in the final. Hopefully I'll have a shot in four years time when he has retired.

"I'll be there unless someone offers me a million pounds not to be an amateur."

In today's final, Zou, 31, will face Thailand's Kaeo Pongprayoon following the Thai's impressive 13-12 semifinal win over world bronze medallist David Ayrapetyan of Russia.

"For the finals I will be careful and meticulous and I will give it my best," said Zou.
