Fist of Power II coming to city next week
DALIAN fighter Ik Yang, or Yang Lianhui, will challenge Thailand’s Fahsai Sakkreerin in Shanghai next Tuesday as the city hosts its second world class professional boxing event — Fist of Power II.
The 10-round fight for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific Junior Welterweight title is among the seven bouts to be staged at Mercedes-Benz Arena in Pudong.
Yang (17-0-0, 12KOs) knocked out another Thai Sukkasem Kietyoungyuth in the eighth round of their 10-round WBO Asia Pacific Lightweight title bout to clinch his third international belt in the same arena on August 26.
Talking about his preparation against Fahsai (41-5-1, 22KOs), Yang said he would focus on giving full play to his own techniques instead of studying the opponent. “A boxer’s playing style can change in a few weeks’ time, so there is no point studying old match videos,” Yang told media yesterday. The 29-year-old has been training in the US, with stamina his main goal.
“My team has been training me with a 12-round bout as a standard. I can surely handle the 10-round fight in Shanghai.”
Another mainland boxer Ma Yiming (11-5-0, 7KOs), also from Dalian, will face Tommy Seran (24-3-0, 15KOs) of Indonesia for the vacant IBF Pan Pacific Light Flyweight crown. Ma wants to win the bout as a birthday gift to himself as the fighter turns 34 on December 19.
Local fans got a taste of professional boxing during the Fist of Power held in the summer featuring seven professional duels, including two title bouts. However, most tickets were given out as gifts. Organizer SECA hopes the events will help build up a boxing fan base in the country.
Ticket prices for Fist of Power II range from 180 yuan (US$29.15) to 1,680 yuan.
