Khan's rematch with Peterson called off
GOLDEN Boy Promotions says Amir Khan's rematch against Lamont Peterson has been canceled because of Peterson's failed drug test.
The promoter announced on Wednesday on its website that Khan's bout against the WBA and IBF junior welterweight champion set for May 19 in Las Vegas has been called off.
The Nevada Athletic Commission had said the fight was in doubt because a urine test in March found unacceptably high levels of synthetic testosterone in Peterson's system.
Peterson's lawyer said the failed test stemmed from an "inadvertent" failure to disclose treatment for low testosterone levels.
The American defeated Briton Khan in a disputed split decision in December to win the WBA and IBF belts.
Meanwhile, British boxing's governing body has warned that anyone involved in the fight between British heavyweights David Haye and Dereck Chisora will be stripped of their licenses.
The July 14 bout at West Ham football club in London will be sanctioned by the Luxembourg Boxing Federation, since the British Boxing Board of Control refused involvement because neither fighter has a license.
The fighters brawled at a news conference in Munich five months ago, leading to Chisora losing his license. Haye failed to renew his last year.
The BBBC says it will clamp down on any license-holder, including the promoter, managers and other fighters on the bill.
