Afghanistan seals World Cup spot
Afghanistan will be heading to Australia and New Zealand in 2015 after qualifying for its maiden 50-over World Cup by finishing second in the World Cricket League Championship yesterday.
The war-torn country beat Kenya by seven wickets at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates to join Ireland as the second Associate team for the February 14-March 29 tournament. Opting to field after winning the toss, Afghanistan, which has played the previous two editions of the Twenty20 World Cup in 2010 and 2012, bundled out Kenya for 93 and then romped home with seven wickets in hand. Afghanistan will be grouped in Pool A with Australia, Bangladesh, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and another qualifier, the International Cricket Council said in a statement.
