Bishoo bashes Bangladesh as West Indies claim series
DEVENDRA Bishoo took five wickets yesterday as West Indies beat Bangladesh by 229 runs in the second cricket test to clinch the two-match series 1-0.
Bangladesh was dismissed for 278 in the penultimate session of the match, with Bishoo taking three of the last four wickets and finishing with figures of 5-90.
The hosts resumed yesterday at 164-3 chasing an improbable 508 to win and batted confidently early despite losing Tamim Iqbal (83), edging a fuller ball from Bishoo to Darren Sammy at slip in the third over of the morning.
"It's really good to win," Sammy told reporters after the match.
"We left home hoping to come out here and play well. After playing and working hard, it's good.
"We all knew that Bangladesh would put up a fight."
Shakib Al Hasan (55) and Mushfiqur Rahim (69) added 88 for the fifth wicket before Sammy (2-19) had Al Hasan caught out to make the total 256-5.
Bishoo bowled Rahim four runs later and Bangladesh limped to lunch at 263-6. The last five wickets fell for 18 runs.
Bishoo ran through the lower order, starting with two wickets within three balls almost immediately after lunch.
The 25-year-old legbreak bowler trapped Naeem Islam (3) lbw with a flipper that skidded low three balls after the interval and had Sohrawardi Shuvo caught by Sammy at slip for a duck two balls later.
Nasir Hossain added three runs before he was also adjudged lbw to Bishoo, giving the spinner eight wickets for the match.
Kemar Roach took the final wicket of Rubel Hossain (7), leaving Shahadat Hossain unbeaten on one.
After a rain-interupted opening draw in the first test, West Indies dictated play in the second match, taking a 124-run first-innings lead after dismissing Bangladesh for 231 and then declaring its second innings at 383-5 on Tuesday when Darren Bravo was finally out for 195.
