Dhoni bowls, Pietersen slams 18th test ton
INDIA captain MS Dhoni has set aside his wicketkeeping gloves to bowl the first over of yesterday's afternoon session against England at Lord's. With England on 217-3 on day two of the first test and India reduced to three orthodox bowlers due to Zaheer Khan's hamstring injury, Dhoni, who has bowled just three overs without taking a wicket in 57 tests, took the drastic step of bringing himself on to bowl, leaving Rahul Dravid to keep wicket.
Dhoni's first ball, to Kevin Pietersen, prompted a strong appeal for lbw that was rejected by umpire Billy Bowden.
Pietersen strode to his 18th test hundred with an innings of regal authority. His 115 not out in an England first innings total of 305 for five at tea kept the home side in charge. Praveen Kumar, no more than medium pace from a short run with a slingy action, took all three wickets to fall on Friday, accounting for Jonathan Trott (70), Ian Bell (45) and Eoin Morgan (0).
