IPL to start in UAE due to national elections
THE first two weeks of the Indian Premier League in April will be played in the United Arab Emirates as India’s general elections are around the same time.
The Indian cricket board announced the move yesterday after the government said it would not be able to provide security for the entire Twenty20 tournament which runs from April 16 to June 1. The tournament will be held in the UAE until April 30, after which organizers will consult the government and hold the next round of matches from May 1-12 either in India or in Bangladesh. The elections will be held from April 7 to May 12.
