Kiwis stunned as Bangladesh clinches series
SKIPPER Shakib Al Hasan smashed a magnificent century as Bangladesh beat New Zealand by nine runs in its fourth limited-overs match in Dhaka yesterday and took an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match series.
Bangladesh reached an innings total of 241 before dismissing New Zealand for 232 with three balls to spare. The hosts had won the first and third match while the second game was abandoned due to rain.
New Zealand lost five wickets for 80 but recovered well to reach 150 for six. However, its last three wickets went for just seven runs as the visitors fell short of the target.
Kane Williamson made a patient 108 that included six boundaries and two sixes before he became the last wicket to fall, caught by Raqibul Hassan off a Shafiul Islam delivery.
Opener B J Watling was the first victim as he was trapped LBW by Abdur Razzak for six while Islam caught and bowled another opener Brendon McCullum for 21.
Bangladesh skipper Hasan claimed three wickets - Grant Elliott (22), Aaron Redmond (16) and Daryl Tuffey (0) - conceding 54 runs.
Suhrawadi Shuvo had Ross Taylor caught by Islam for three while New Zealand skipper Daniel Vettori (8) was removed by Mohammad Mahmudullah.
