Sachin, Dravid put India in command
SACHIN Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid scored centuries to put India in command and take a 226-run first-innings lead yesterday on the second day of the second and final test against Bangladesh in Dhaka.
At stumps, India reached 459-5 in reply to the Bangladesh first-innings total of 233 with three days of play remaining.
Tendulkar's 143 - his 45th test century - came from 182 balls and included 13 boundaries and one six. Dravid (111) smashed his 29th test century before retiring hurt after he was hit in the face by a short pitch delivery from Shahadat Hossain. He hit 12 boundaries from 188 balls.
Tendulkar, who looked set for a bigger score, lofted a catch to Imrul Kayes off Shakib al-Hasan.
It was Tendulkar's second test hundred in the current series. His 105 not out in the first innings of the first test in Chittagong helped India to a thumping victory and a 1-0 series lead.
Tendulkar and Dravid added 222 runs for the third wicket and in the process became the most successful pair to put a century partnership in test cricket. They have been involved in 17 100-plus partnerships, one better then Australian Ricky Ponting and Mathew Hayden and West Indies' Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes.
Murali Vijay added 30 runs before being caught by Mohammad Mahmudullah off Shakib. Night watchman Harbhajan Singh (13), the last wicket of the day, was dismissed by Shafiul Islam.
Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was unbeaten on 22.
Openers Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag each notched half centuries before being dismissed.
