Sangakkara cleared of improper conduct
SRI Lanka captain Kumar Sangakkara was cleared of improper conduct by the International Cricket Council yesterday after being accused of deliberately colliding with New Zealand offspinner Nathan McCullum during a one-day international match in Dambulla.
Sangakkara was attempting to take a second run in an over bowled by McCullum when the incident took place on Friday. Australian match referee Alan Hurst said video footage during the tri-series match had raised doubt about Sangakkara's intent. "I looked at video footage of the incident from various angles and considered the detailed evidence of the umpires," Hurst said in a statement. "I found that video evidence that was put forward by the player provided reasonable doubt as to whether the contact was deliberate." The match was abandoned because of rain. New Zealand leads the standings with seven points, one more than Sri Lanka and two in front of India.
