Shastri is de facto India coach
FORMER allrounder Ravi Shastri will continue as India’s de facto coach after being retained as team director for the short tour of Bangladesh pending the appointment of a full-time coach.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India made the announcement yesterday, also retaining assistant coaches Sanjay Banger (batting), Bharat Arun (bowling), and R Sridhar (fielding). A replacement for coach Duncan Fletcher, whose contract ended after the Cricket World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where India lost in the semifinals to New Zealand, is expected to be announced soon in consultation with retired stars Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, who form a new advisory committee of the BCCI. India will play a one-off test at Fatullah from June 10-14, and one-day internationals at Mirpur on June 18, 21, and 24.
