Vaas Vows To Fight Back Into ODI Squad

SRI Lanka left-armer Chaminda Vaas bade farewell to test cricket yesterday and then announced his determination to win back his place in the ODI team.

The 35-year-old finished his 111-match test career with a tally of 355 wickets.

"This is an emotional time for me," he said. "I have played international cricket for the last 16 years with pride and performed to the best of my ability ... I can confidently say that I have given my 100 percent to my country.

"I may not have been the most talented cricketer to play for Sri Lanka, but I've worked hard on my game and was able to produce good results.

"There are young fast bowlers emerging now so this is a good time to retire from test cricket so I can concentrate on one-day and Twenty20 cricket," he said. "I haven't played much ODI cricket during the past 11 months, but I am going to work very hard to try and win back my place."
