Windies beat Australia

DEFENDING champions West Indies revived their semis hopes at the World Twenty20 with a six-wicket win over Australia in Mirpur, Bangladesh, yesterday, virtually knocking George Bailey’s team out of the race.

The West Indies surpassed Australia’s 178-8 with two balls to spare in a thrilling finish to win their second game in three outings in Group B of the Super-10s. Captain Darren Sammy struck two consecutive sixes in the last over off James Faulkner, finishing with 34 off 13 balls. Dwayne Bravo took 27 off 12.

It was Australia’s second successive setback after losing its opening match to Pakistan, and it will now struggle to qualify even if it beats India and Bangladesh in its remaining matches.
