Elorriaga leads Tour of Beijing
Spanish cyclist Benat Intxausti Elorriaga won the fourth stage of the Tour of Beijing yesterday to take the overall lead with one stage remaining.
The stage win gives Intxausti Elorriaga a 10-second lead over Daniel Martin of Ireland going into today’s concluding flat 117-kilometer stage from Tiananmen Square to the National Stadium. David Lopez of Spain was third, followed by Intxausti Elorriaga’s Movistar teammate Rui Costa of Portugal, the winner of the road race at the world championships last month. Tony Martin of Germany, who won the two previous editions of the Tour, was sixth. Elorriaga attacked with a little more than 2 km left in the 150.5-km stage as the pack battled uphill to the finish in the mountainous Mentougou District in the west.
