Haller sprints to first pro win at Beijing Tour
MARCO Haller of Austria emerged fastest in a mass sprint to the finish to claim his first professional victory in the fourth stage of the Tour of Beijing yesterday.
The Katusha Team rider overtook Italian sprint specialist Alessandro Petacchi of Lampre-ISD to win the 165.5-kilometer stage from Yanqing to Chang Ping.
Liquigas-Cannondale rider Elia Viviani of Italy was third. German world time trial champion Tony Martin retained a 40-second overall lead heading into today's 182.5-kilometer final stage to Pinggu Centenary Square.
Mitchell Docker (Orica GreenEdge), Alex Dowsett (Sky), Alex Howes (Garmin-Sharp), Jeremy Roy (FDJ-Big Mat) and Timofey Kritskiy (Katusha) led an early break in the first 20km, and held off several challenges before Roy emerged in front.
