Pendleton crowned women's Olympic keirin champion

BRITAIN'S Victoria Pendleton claimed her second Olympic title when she was crowned the inaugural women' Olympic keirin champion yesterday.
China's Guo Shuang finished a close second with Sarah Lee Wai-Sze of China's Hong Kong finished third in the six-woman final to take bronze.
Anna Meares, the two-time and defending world champion, made the first move after the motor-paced derny left the track with three laps to race, moving in front of the pack in commanding fashion.
But shortly after Pendleton put in a quick burst of speed to overtake her Australian rival on the final lap.
Once Pendleton was in front, there was no way back for her rivals.
Meares appeared to run out of gas and got boxed in. In the end it was Guo, a silver medal winner in the women's team sprint with Gong Jinjie on Thursday, who came fighting back on the home straight.
Pendleton, the Olympic sprint champion from Beijing, was relegated with sprint team partner Jess Varnish on Thursday after an irregular changeover.
It was Britain's third track gold of the Games after the British men defended their team sprint title on Thursday and the men's pursuit team defended their title from Beijing earlier.
