China lands 3 golds, Tian heads for Hall
BEIJING Olympics silver medalist Zhou Luxin of China won the 10-meter platform at the USA Diving Grand Prix in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on Saturday.
Zhou scored 518.75 points, Thomas Finchum of the United States won silver, and Mexico's Ivan Garcia the bronze.
Both Finchum and Zhou put up their best dives in the fourth round at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Center.
Finchum's reverse 3 1/2 tuck received at least nines from all seven judges, including one 10 for an overall score of 94.05.
Three divers later, Zhou came up with four 10s on his back 3-1/2 pike that scored an overall 106.20.
Another Chinese, Han Wang, won the women's 3-meter springboard, with Arantxa Chanez of Mexico second and American Christina Loukas third.
China took another gold when Liu Huixia and Zhu Jiaming won the women's synchronized 10-meter platform. Meaghan Benfeito and Roseline Filion of Canada came in second and Amy Cozad and Laura Ryan placed third.
Huang Qiang and Bryan Nickson Lomas of Malaysia won the men's synchronized 3-meter competition in a surprise.
In addition to its success on Saturday, China was also to celebrate the induction of diver Tian Liang into the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
Tian, who won four Olympic medals (two gold, one silver, one bronze) during his diving career, was to be inducted in the Hall of Fame at the Broward County Convention Center.
