CHINA hopes to capitalize on the success of its gold-medal Olympic divers by launching a professional diving league later this year. Chinese divers won seven of the eight gold medals available in diving at last year's Beijing Olympics.
The divers are some of the country's best-known athletes, but lack a profile outside China. "We think we can launch a new form of diving competition - the Diving League - to make the sport more competitive and attractive," Zhou Jihong said. She said non-Chinese divers would also be invited to compete.
