AOC dumps cyclist O'Grady
Stuart O'Grady has been dropped from the Australian Olympic Committee's Athletes Commission a day after the 2004 cycling gold medalist admitted to using the blood booster EPO in the lead-up to the 1998 Tour de France.
The AOC removed O'Grady from its Athletes Commission yesterday after he failed to respond to its requests to resign. The 39-year-old Australian, a six-time Olympian who wore the leader's yellow jersey for a total of nine days in 17 Tours, announced his retirement earlier this week. He said he used EPO for two weeks before the 1998 event, saying he had acquired it himself and used it without the knowledge of his team. A clean doping record is a pre-condition of membership in the AOC Athletes Commission.
