Chan claims Macau Open


CHINESE Taipei's Chan Yih-shin grabbed four birdies in five holes on the back nine to win the Macau Open by three strokes yesterday.

Chan shot a final-round 69 - with straight birdies on holes 12-14 and another on No. 16 - for a four-round total of 14-under 270. It's Chan's first win on the Asian Tour in more than two years.

Australian David Gleeson shot a 66 to finish in second place with an overall 11-under 273.

Chan lost the lead twice in the final round to South Korean Mo Joong-kyung (72), who had shot a 65 on Saturday.

Thailand's Thaworn Wiratchant carded a 66 to finish third on 10-under.

India's Jeev Milkha Singh was tied for fourth alongside Myanmar's Zaw Moe and Mo on 9-under 275.

In Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, China's Pan Yanhong fired a 7-under 65 yesterday to win the US$50,000 Wenzhou Orient Yangyi Challenge for her first professional victory.

The Hebei Province-native finished with a 54-hole score of 9-under 207 at the China LPGA Tour event, two strokes ahead of Chinese veteran Yang Hongmei (70).

Overnight leader Huang Meihao (75) finished equal third with fellow Chinese Li Jiayun (71), three shots back.

Thailand's Porani Chutichai (72) and Tian Hong (70) of China were equal fifth.
