Chen masters conditions for lead at CTBC Ladies Open

AS strong winds played havoc with much of the field at the CTBC Ladies Open yesterday, China’s Chen Liqing held it together in the difficult conditions to shoot a par-72 for a one-stroke lead through two rounds in Taipei.

In the first regular season event co-sponsored by the China LPGA Tour and the LPGA Tour of Taiwan, Chinese Taipei trio of Tsai Pei-ying (74), Chien Pei-yun (70) and Huang Yu-chen (74) were one shot back, while overnight leader Hsu Wei-ling was two off the pace after blowing up to a 76. Guangdong native Chen, whose round featured four birdies and four bogeys, including one at the last, was 1-under 143 after 36 holes.

In Selangor, Malaysia, India’s Anirban Lahiri continued his flying form by firing a 4-under 68 to maintain a two-shot lead at the halfway stage of the Asian Tour’s Selangor Masters yesterday. The 27-year-old, who fired 10 birdies in his first round, dropped just one shot for a 10-under 132 total to stay ahead of Australian Cameron Smith (66) and four clear of compatriot SSP Chowrasia (70).
