Creamer fires US
THE United States made a confident start to its Solheim Cup defense on Friday, Paula Creamer winning both her matches before the hosts ended the first day leading Europe by 4-1/2 to 3-1/2.
One point ahead after the morning's fourballs, the Americans split the afternoon's foursomes encounters with the visitors to stay in control in Sugar Grove, Illinois.
Creamer made a 20-foot putt to give the US the final lead and make Juli Inkster the highest-scoring US player in the event's history.
The 49-year-old Inkster has scored 17 1/2 points, one more than Meg Mallon.
"That just means I'm the oldest," Inkster cracked after her and Creamer's 2-and-1 foursome win over Catriona Matthew and Janice Moodie.
