Dubai dumped as Woods heads to Abu Dhabi

TIGER Woods is moving from Dubai's showcase tournament to make his debut in Abu Dhabi.

Organizers say the former top-ranked golfer will play in the January 26-29 HSBC Championship along with current No. 1 Luke Donald and defending champion Martin Kaymer. Adding Woods is seen as a coup for Abu Dhabi in its rivalry with the Dubai Desert Classic, where Woods has been a mainstay for years. Tournament manager Faisal al-Sheikh boasted that the "giants of golf" are coming to Abu Dhabi.

Meanwhile, South Korea will host Presidents Cup in 2015, marking the event's first appearance in Asia.

US PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said yesterday that an as-yet undecided Korean club will host the biennial match-play tournament between the United States and an International team of golfers representing non-European countries.

Finchem said the PGA Tour has "a number of options" for a host club but will not announce the specific venue until the first half of next year. Three South Korean players are on this year's Presidents Cup team at Royal Melbourne: K.J. Choi, K. T. Kim and Y.E. Yang.
