Edfors holds on for victory

SWEDEN'S Johan Edfors led from start to finish at the US$500,000 Black Mountain Masters in Hua Hin, Thailand, closing with a four-under 68 yesterday for a 17-under 271 total and a two-stroke victory in the Asian Tour event.

England's Chris Rodgers shared second place at 15-under with Thailand's Prayad Marksaeng, who surged up the leaderboard with a closing 64 that should put him in contention for a place at the US Masters in two weeks' time.

Anirban Lahiri closed with a 68 for fourth place and his Indian compatriot Gaganjeet Bhullar set the course record with a 63 to finish in a tie for fifth with Thai pair Chapchai Nirat (67) and Thongchai Jaidee (68).

Edfors led the whole way, but nearly faltered at the end with a double-bogey at the 16th after his drive landed next to a tree that put him back into a share of first place.

But he recovered with two late birdies to regain control.

"I guess I made it too exciting," he said. "I wasn't planning on doing that.

"I made a couple of poor shots and bad decisions and then had to really fight for it at the end."

It was a timely victory for Edfors, who had not won a title following his bumper 2006 season where he triumphed three times on the European Tour.

In Orlando, Florida, American Sean O'Hair stretched his lead to five shots in Saturday's third round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational, despite limping home with three bogeys in the last four holes.

On a brutal day at Bay Hill where thick rough and gusting winds posed continual problems for the players, O'Hair carded a one-over 71 to tighten his grip on the tournament.

The slim 26-year-old returned five bogeys and four birdies for a seven-under total of 203, with five-time champion Tiger Woods lurking ominously in second place after a matching 71.

Former US Masters champion Zach Johnson fired a 68, one of only four sub-par scores on the day, to lie joint third at one-under with fellow American Jason Gore (74) and Japan's Ryuji Imada (73).
