Feng dominates for wire-to-wire victory in Dubai

CHINA’S world No. 5 Feng Shanshan, the highest ranked player in the field, completed a wire-to-wire victory at the season-ending Ladies European Masters in Dubai yesterday.
Feng closed with a 2-under-par 70 and tallied 19-under 269 for the four days for a five-stroke victory on the Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis Course.
She won the 2012 edition of the tournament with a record winning total of 21-under par.
Spain’s Carlota Ciganda (68) finished second at 14-under, while German Caroline Masson (67) was a shot behind.
England’s Charley Hull (72) wrapped up the European Tour’s Order of Merit crown when she finished tied fifth at 10-under, while Wales’ Amy Boulden was the Rookie of the Year.
In Chonburi, outside Bangkok, Marcus Fraser of Australia shot a 2-under 70 yesterday to take a one-shot lead after the third round of the Thailand Golf Championship.
Fraser is playing only his second tournament since returning from a long break due to a wrist injury, but has been among the most consistent players off the tee at the Asian Tour event at the Amata Spring Country Club.
His 5-under 211 put him one shot ahead of Anirban Lahiri of India, who carded a 68.
“I drove it really well on the first day as well, only missed one fairway on Thursday and I think I only missed a couple today,” Fraser said. “You definitely have to stay out of the rough out there, it’s pretty brutal.”
Martin Kaymer (70) and Lee Westwood (72) were tied for third along with Tommy Fleetwood of England, another shot back. Fleetwood led after the second round but only managed a 73 yesterday.
Kaymer, who is making his first appearance in Thailand, had an inconsistent round with six birdies and four bogeys.
“I had a couple of dropped shots and that was painful, but I think I put myself in a good position,” Kaymer said. “If the putter is warm enough then I might have a chance.”
Defending champion Sergio Garcia recovered from Friday’s 75 to shoot a 71 to sit tied for 10th, six shots behind Fraser.
In Gold Coast, defending champion Adam Scott and fellow Australians Scott Strange and Wade Ormsby were tied for the lead after three rounds at the Australian PGA Championship, with American Boo Weekley one stroke behind.
Scott shot a 3-under 69 yesterday while Strange and overnight leader Ormsby had 71s for 54-hole totals of 10-under 206 on the Royal Pines resort course.
Weekley, playing in Australia for the third time in four weeks, also shot 69 and was tied for fourth with Australian Jason Scrivener, who shot 68. Weekley provided one of the shots of the day when he chipped in for an eagle on the par-5 12th.
