Hainan golf event attracts many big names

MORE international celebrities will turn up at this year's Mission Hills golf tournament in Hainan Province, South China later this month, the organizer said this afternoon in Shanghai.

The cross-field golf championships have attracted Oscar-winning actor Adrien Brody, Oscar nominee Andy Garcia, US swimming legend Michael Phelps, Brazilian soccer star Ronaldo, and former world No. 1 tennis player Pat Cash.

They will join a host of luminaries from Hong Kong and Chinese mainland including former basketball player Yao Ming, film director Feng Xiaogang, and action star Donnie Yen.

Besides the famous amateurs, this event also invited professional golf players to compete, including Darren Clarke, Ian Woosnam, Tony Jacklin and Matt Kuchar. The professional golfers will compete for prize money of US$ 1 million.

The event will be held in the provincial capital of Haikou from October 19 to 21.
