Ilonen takes Irish Open for 4th Tour triumph
FINLAND’S Mikko Ilonen led from start to finish to capture the Irish Open in Cork yesterday.
Ilonen, 34, celebrated his fourth Tour triumph with a one-shot victory after firing a 1-under-par 70 for a 13-under total. Italy’s Edoardo Molinari posted a last-day 67 to finish second on 12-under. Fan favorite Graeme McDowell was never in the hunt for his first Irish Open success with the Northern Irishman signing for 71 to finish three shots behind the Finn in a share of sixth. Molinari, along with the England duo of Danny Willett and Matthew Baldwin, sealed the three spots available for next month’s British Open.
