Jang fires career-low to grab early Beijing Challenge lead

TEN days after securing her spot in next month’s US Women’s Open, an in-form Jang So-young fired a career-low 8-under 64 at the Beijing Challenge yesterday to take a two-shot lead after the first round of the China LPGA Tour tournament.
With the temperatures into the upper 30s, the 23-year-old South Korean, who last week won the US Women’s Open China qualifier in Nanshan, shot a bogey-free round that included five birdies on the back nine. Zhang Jienalin, a Chinese amateur, shot a 6-under 66 to sit second, while Thai Pavarisa Yoktuan was two shots further back in third after a 68.
