Lahiri retains Thailand lead
INDIA’S Anirban Lahiri retained his lead on day two of the King’s Cup in Thailand with a 5-under-par 67 as compatriot SSP Chowrasia, who had been joint leader, slipped down the table.
Five-time Asian Tour winner Lahiri couldn’t quite match his previous days’ form when he stormed off the starting blocks with an impressive 7-under 65 yesterday.
But it was enough to keep him two shots clear of Andrew Dolt of Australia and Thailand’s Jakraphan Premsirigorn at the US$500,000 event with a 12-under 132 at the Singha Park Khon Kaen Golf Club.
Chowrasia posted 71 to slip to tied-fifth with Australia’s Adam Groom on 136 while local hero Thaworn Wiratchant, a comparative veteran at 47, took fourth place on 135.
Thaworn, who holds an unprecedented 17 titles on the Asian Tour, laughed off any suggestion age might hold him back from notching up a few more victories.
“Who says I’m old? Still young boy,” he said, according to a statement put out by organizers. “I’m still enjoying my game every day and that’s important. I love my golf and that’s what keeps me going which includes trying to get another win again this week.”
