Lewis retains 2-shot Beijing lead

TOP-RANKED Stacy Lewis shot a 5-under 68 to maintain a two-stroke lead over fellow American Brittany Lang after the second round of the Reignwood LPGA Classic in Beijing yesterday.

Lewis opened with a bogey but followed that with three birdies on the next four holes, and three more on the back nine to get to 12-under 134 overall.

“It was a day that I just had to stay patient,” said Lewis, who’s looking for her fourth US LPGA Tour victory of the year. “Didn’t quite hit the shots around the greens that I needed to.”

Lang (66) had seven birdies and no bogeys to tie for the low round of the day with Suzann Pettersen of Norway.

Caroline Masson of Germany (68), Lee Mi-rim of South Korea (68), Belen Mozo of Spain (69) and Caroline Hedwall of Sweden (71) were tied for third at 8 under.

Defending champion Feng Shanshan of China was in a tie for 39th at even par after shooting a 71.

In Taipei, Brazil’s Adilson da Silva fired a 6-under-par 66 to take the halfway lead at the Mercuries Taiwan Masters yesterday.

Da Silva capped a flawless front nine with three birdies and one eagle to turn in 31 but dropped a shot on the 13th hole. He recovered by adding two more birdies for a two-day total of 3-under 141 at the Taiwan Golf and Country Club’s Tamsui course.

England’s Steve Lewton, who carded a 72, stayed one shot back with a two-day total of 142 to remain in second place while Asian Tour rookie Paul Peterson of the United States moved to third following a 71. Overnight leader Lionel Weber of France, however, stumbled with an 80 to slide down to 40th place and merely made the halfway cut.
