Liang leads British Open qualifying

LIANG Wenchong, the first player from China to make the cut at a major, is one of the favorites at this week's British Open international final qualifying event.

The 30-year-old, who competed in all four rounds in the 2008 Open at Royal Birkdale, is among a 64-strong field who will play 36 holes in the Asian edition of IFQ today and tomorrow. Liang won the 2007 Singapore Masters and the 2008 Indian Open and finished joint seventh in last month's Malaysian Open, a tournament co-sanctioned by the Asian and European tours. The British Open starts on July 16.
