Lin defends Sanya title in style

CHINA’S Lin Xiyu completed a successful defense of her Sanya’s Hill Ladies Classic title yesterday when the US LPGA Tour regular closed with a 2-under 70 for a six-stroke victory at the event in southern Hainan Island.

The 18-year-old Guangzhou native finished at 9-under 207 for her fourth China LPGA Tour victory.

“I finally won this year. It’s like last year. I didn’t do very well, but finally it paid off at the end. It’s a perfect ending for me,” said Lin. “The China LPGA Tour is very important to me, not only because I come from here, but also when I have ups and downs abroad I can always find my status and confidence here.”

Rookie pro Feng Simin, 16, finished a distant second at 3 under, after an even-par 72, while 14-year-old amateur Jin Man (72) was two shots further back in third. Fellow amateur Qi Tian was fourth as the 14-year-old struggled to a 76, nine shots off Lin’s final score.
