Lowry wins by a stroke in Portugal

SHANE Lowry of Ireland won the Portugal Masters on Sunday after a final-round 5-under 66 to edge out England's Ross Fisher by one stroke.

Lowry started the round four shots off the lead, but made an eagle on the par-4 11th to move ahead of overnight leader Bernd Wiesberger.

The 25-year-old Lowry then traded the lead with Fisher before taking advantage of the Englishman's bogey on the 16th with a birdie at the 17th.

Fisher had one last chance after Lowry bogeyed the 18th but he also bogeyed the hole, allowing the Irishman to claim a second career European Tour win by totaling 14-under 270 on the Oceanico Victoria Golf Course.

"I cannot believe this," said Lowry, who won 375,000 euros (US$486,000). "I can't explain how I feel really. It's a dream come true, I'm over the moon. I thought this could be my day, and thankfully it is."
