Ramsay struggles at European Masters

Defending champion Richie Ramsay is likely to miss the cut at the European Masters after completing his second round at 2 over yesterday.

The Scotsman followed an opening 73 with a level-par 71 on a second day of low scoring in the Swiss Alps sunshine at Crans-Sur-Sierre. The cut was projected at 1 under.

Danny Willett of England leads at 9 under after his 64 included an eagle, five birdies and no dropped shots.

First-round leader Anirban Lahiri of India, who shot 63 on Thursday, started his second round in the afternoon.

Lahiri was joined on 8 under by Brooks Koepka of the United States and Paul Casey of England, who had rounds yesterday of 66 and 69, respectively.

Miguel Angel Jiminez of Spain was another late starter, on 6 under.

Last year, Lahiri followed an opening 66 on the Severiano Ballesteros course at Crans-sur-Sierre club with 81 and missed the halfway cut.

“It’s nice to be back with a bang,” Lahiri said on Thursday. “Obviously a tough pill to swallow last year and I have learned a lot from that.”

He is a three-time career winner on the Asian Tour which jointly sanctions the Swiss event with the European Tour.

Thomas Bjorn, the 2011 champion from Denmark, went round in 66 to be alone at 5 under.

Jose Maria Olazabal of Spain, the winning Europe Ryder Cup captain last year, was among six players on 4 under.

Thirteen-year-old Ye Wocheng of China carded a 7-over 78, after making double-bogey at three of his first four holes.
