PLOYCHOMPOO Wirairungrueng claimed her maiden victory yesterday when she birdied the final hole to win the inaugural Zhangjiagang Shuanshan Challenge by one stroke.
With China’s Pan Yanhong (67) in the clubhouse anticipating a playoff, and fellow Thai Kanphanitnan Muangkhumsakul (71) faltering to a last-hole bogey, the 21-year-old Ploychompoo relegated the pair to runner-up when she held her nerve and sank a six-foot putt for a 71 and a 7-under 209 total score at Shuangshan Golf Course on Zhangjiagang Island, Jiangsu Province.
