Tseng hopes to extend her win streak in Suzhou
EVEN the audience for a rock music concert in Chinese Taipei cannot match the celebrity status of Tseng Yani as attested by the over 60,000 fans who thronged the golf course at the Sunrise LPGA Championships in her native Taipei last weekend.
It was Tseng's 10th win in all competitions. And this week she is set to pull the crowd to Suzhou Taihu International Golf Club when she competes in the Suzhou-Taihu Ladies Open from Friday.
After a light workout at the driving range and the practice green yesterday, Tseng said she's prepared to face another big crowd here and "I'll try my best not to disappoint them".
"I'll try my best to win it here and keep my fans happy. Every tournament has its own character, it is a different challenge altogether," said the current No. 1 in the women's world golf rankings.
"This is my first time in Suzhou - a beautiful and scenic place to be."
Still enjoying a fiery form and strong confidence, she added that this year is her best season since playing on the LPGA Tour.
"I've four more events to go, including this one, and hope to win it all to have 14 wins. The win last week was great, lots of people - even people who do not know which end of the club to hold," she said.
Tseng became the youngest player ever at 22-years-old, to win five Ladies Professional Golf Association majors when she successfully defended the Women's British Open title in July 2011.
This year she had set out a goal to do her best in every tournament.
Tseng becomes the eighth player in LPGA Tour history to win back-to-back Player of the Year awards and the 11th player in history to win multiple Player of the Year awards.
"It feels really different because last year it came down to the very last tournament but this time it is five weeks earlier and it keeps me really relaxed."
