Typhoon delays start

Heavy rains from a deadly typhoon have forced organizers to delay the start of the Philippine Open by a day and slash the tournament to 54 holes, the Asian Tour said yesterday.

The US$300,000 event, originally scheduled to open today, will now start tomorrow after downpours at the Luisita Golf and Country Club, about 105 kilometers north of Manila. “Heavy rainfall has forced us to postpone the start of the event and reduce it to three rounds,” Asian Tour tournament director Wanchai Meechai said.
